To prepare for spring and summer, many of us are attempting to lose excess weight we’ve accumulated during the fall and winter season. Here’s a motivational article about techniques to help you stay on track and feel good!

NOTE: Doncaster makes clothing that can be easily and cost effectively altered…up to two sizes!…and you can alter them as you drop each 1/2 or full size.

New Year, New Me …. Maybe? (Sticking with our Resolutions)

by Doncaster Fashionistas | February 16th, 2010 | Weight loss/ Control | No Comments »

This epiphany strikes the masses every January 1. I personally stopped making them for the past few years when I realized that my verve to create the uber me diminished around the 11th. Typically, only about 65% of us actually make it past mid February, so for many of us this article is hitting us just when we need it the most!

Here are some helpful hints and mindful motivators to help you keep up the good work or to get yourself back into the game!

1. Don’t punish yourself. Research shows that in the long term, the pleasure of victory is a better incentive than the agony of defeat. Punishment is a poor motivator, it really only successfully sets you up for failure. If you are accustomed to punishing yourself for your failures, you won’t stay motivated to change for very long.

2. Surround yourself with people you respect. Surround yourself with friends who can also be role models. The people you surround yourself with influence your behavior. Social imitation can oftentimes lead to self-improvement.

3. Don’t kid yourself. You need to understand in advance how much is too much for you. If you know what your limitations are to begin with, cheating will become more evident.

4. Announce your intentions. If more people are aware of your goals the more support you will get and the more you are likely to stick with your resolutions.

So here is a little peak into my resolution …….

Doncaster Spring 2010 New Years Resolution

2010 New Years Resolution

Lose weight – already sounds depressing doesn’t it? Very few people, that I know at least, get excited when they have to deprive themselves. Now, for my new interpretation: I am determined to wear white pants this summer, they are my personal definition of warm weather casual-chic. It simply must happen! I have lost and gained weight more times than I care to remember, so this time I took the time to really take a look at the factors that for me equate success. It was actually a fairly obvious formula, reward+support+accountability = success. Has been for most of my life, just ask anyone in it! Yes, I like my rewards up front.

Step 1. Bought them on the spot. I didn’t go and buy a pair that were 4 sizes smaller than I am now, simply the size I felt would be acceptable for someone of my height and body type to look fabulous…and realistic for me to reach. This motivates me to do the work necessary to be able to wear them … along with the fabulous wardrobe I already have in that size from before gaining some weight!
Step 2. Envisioned myself with hair down in tussled waves, sunkissed skin (a la bronzer), breezy tunic and saddle leather thong sandals or fab tweedy jacket and pumps- either way, legs lean and looking gorgeous.

Step 3. Come back to reality and figure out how to accomplish this. For me the answer is a little healthy competition and accountability. So, I enlisted another fashion loving lady that also had a few fabulous frocks she was dying to don (a little side bet never hurts – a pair of Doncaster organic hoop earrings). In short, several weeks in and not quite in “white pant” condition but certainly on my way. I have days where I slip up, but I get back on task and keep moving forward toward my goal.

2010 New Year's Resolution Reward

2010 New Year's Resolution Reward

Take a moment and think of what you really want to accomplish this year? Don’t automatically jump to the things that disappointed you in 2009, the donation you didn’t make, the party you didn’t go to, the promotion you didn’t get or the dress you couldn’t fit in-that is over and done, look forward!

Here’s to a Happy, Healthy 2010….with a closet full of white pants!

NOTE: I don’t recommend that my dieting client’s should necessarily purchase clothing to shrink in to (even though it is a great motivator); however, I do recommend that they purchase fabulous items that fit them now so that they feel beautiful TODAY! Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and you can look gorgeous at any size. We select pieces that can be easily and economically altered down to fit once the weight is lost too. For example, Doncaster has a “miracle pant” that can be altered down two sizes … which I’ve done in the past – they are great!
